“Easy for you to say / Your heart has never been broken / Your pride has never been stolen / Not yet, not yet” - Foo Fighters, “These Days”
Mike’s love for music started early... very early. At just two and a half years old, he got his hands on a KISS Alive album, and it was game over from there. By the time the ‘80s rolled around, Mike was fully immersed in the world of hair metal, captivated by drummers who brought both power and showmanship to the stage. Guys like Tommy Lee and Vikki Foxx. But it wasn’t until he heard Mikkey Dee’s blistering intro to “The Hunger” on Don Dokken’s solo record that he knew drumming wasn’t just a passion. It was a calling.
In his teens, Mike fell under the spell of Stewart Copeland and the tight, inventive grooves of The Police, unknowingly absorbing the kind of rhythmic creativity that would become his signature style. From that point forward, it’s been full throttle. He’s been playing professionally since he was 18, splitting his time between original projects and cover bands, always chasing that next great musical moment.
Naturally, Taylor Hawkins was another pivotal influence. Mike remembers seeing Taylor tear it up while playing for Alanis Morissette, and it was instant admiration. Taylor’s ability to combine raw power with unpredictable, Copeland-esque flair struck a chord. Now, behind the kit in this band, Mike gets to channel that same energy and intensity, something he considers a dream come true.
Mike lives for loud. Always has, always will.
